Uphill battle

I went cycling this afternoon. I cycled to the city centre and back. Man, it was cold. The rush of wind blowing in my face and body. Chilling.. *shivers* Going was easy, coming back was hard. REALLY HARD. To get to where I'm living, I'll have to go up a hill. It doesn't look that hard when going by car but by bicycle.. fuyoh. I felt like passing out.. haha. I was gasping for air as I made my way up. I guess my brother was right, I didn't really know how to change the gears. So I decided to push the bike instead. There was an Asian guy cycling too. He was paddling slowly and he passed me.

Guy: Hi :)
Me: *gasp* Hello *gasp*

When I finally reached home, I was so so glad. I told my housemates about my experience up that hill and they laughed at me..pretty hard. Haha. Come to think of it, it was quite funny. It was like a slap in the face telling me, "See, who asked you to cycle. Your brother already advised you not to since you didn't know how to use the gears." Nonetheless, if I never try then I'll never know.

*update* Sunday.

My housemates and I decided to watch X-Files on my laptop but what a turn off it was. I don't know what's wrong with my laptop last night. Eveything seemed to go wrong. It kept stopping the movie every few minutes. Plus, my camera xD card is now stuck in the card reader. It was partly my fault because I sorta put it in a little bit senget but why why why. I'd rather pay someone 100 bucks to help me take it out safely than lose all the pictures I have in it :/

To me, pictures are worth more than a thousand words. Although they are still pictures that only capture one moment or one expression, but when I look at pictures, there's more than just that particular memory that flashes inside of my head. If I look at one NS picture, I'd think of the other moments I had at NS as well. Get what i mean? Sighs..

Went to yam cha after after church today. Dim sum!! Ah. There's plenty of Asian food here but.. still no Kolo Mee. Ask someone who's doing kolo mee business in Kuching to migrate to NZ and start a Kolo Mee business QUICK! Sure sell like hot cakes one.. NZ got a lot of Malaysians also mah.. haha. If not, then my brother and I will eat at your stall once a week. haha.

Then my bro went for a drive so we drove passed the Manawatu Gorge. Hen piao liang le! Haha.
But then my camera card is STUCK in the card reader. Sooooooooo babi. :P Oh well, gotta be strong! Have faith. Worry: BAD, Pray: GOOD =)

Tomorrow's Monday again! Oww Nohh. I have loads to do and I hope I can really focus on the things that I need to get done. Procrastination should be out of my student guidebook now. I'm turning 18 soon. I'm old enough to know not to procrastinate ey.

Here's a picture for your viewing pleasure. Interpret it however you want. I'm sure some of you will laugh.

A Rainy Day

Last week, my brother and I went to buy Domino's pizza and I saw a car with the plate number:

YS2890

I was so tempted snap a picture of it because it's significant. 'Y' and 'S' are my initials and '289' was my sports day number in Form 5, in which I was co-captain and my house won! AMETHYST ANNIHILATES! =D Since zero means zero so the '0' doesn't matter. Haha.

Tomorrow is Friday already. I can't believe the week has gone by so quickly. Soon it will be the weekends and then class resumes on Monday. I have not been able to contact many this week because I don't see you people online :( Azizul's online EVERY DAY like the Tyra on his blog. Eyes on screen, fingers on keyboard and ass on chair. Haha.

I've settled on an essay topic and I can't change it anymore after tomorrow morning. Media Censorship. Ahh.

before I go to bed..

I just finished my essay. It was actually suppose to be a short essay of at least 250 words but somehow and I don't know how or why, my word count says it's 400+. Haha. I wasted time? I need to catch up on my sleep tonight since I slept this morning!

I went to watch HP last night and I slept around 1230am, woke up 6 hours later. I.. closed my eyes and rested for a while during the movie =P haha. Transformers 2 was better.. It's free seating at the cinemas so if you want to get good seats, you'll have to come early and line up outside the cinema hall. WIDE-SCREEN MAN! It was so wide I told my brother "eh, the screen is too wide I can't see the whole thing". haha.. I just wasn't used to it I guess. And it's super clear unlike the one at Star where there are those disturbing white lines on the screen. Plus, NO SUBTITLES. Waahh. In M'sia there's BM, Chinese and sometimes Thai subs below. I told my bro again, "Like DVD wei..". Haha. Feel sakai lah.

There's Chuck and Prison Break on tv now..

I had to give a presentation with my friend this morning. It was a pair presentation and we chose to present about the piano. PRESENT, NOT TALK. There's a difference between those two ya.. After our presentation, my teacher asked a Saudi guy:

Teacher: Abdullah, what do you think Yvonne's accent was?
Abdullah: Umm.. Asian.
Teacher: Naww.. I think it sounded like.. Canadian-French or something..

Haha. My teacher's so funny. I sound like Celine Dion. Whee =P

I played badminton with my bro and his friend this afternoon. We booked the court for 2 hours. In between, we went to borrow a volleyball and played it for a while. I think it's so cold here that I didn't sweat much. If I was in M'sia, wahpiang.

Today, I'm happy and I'm sad
I felt good and I felt bad
I get to play badminton with bro
but something else happened though
I dropped my phone
but the fault was my own

I'm having a sore throat :(

I miss people..

Chasing time

It's 9pm and as much as I feel like I want to sleep now, I have work to do. I am still quite full from dinner earlier. Steamboat! Round after round, for about one hour plus desserts (ice-cream). Waaahh.

I have to do research on the piano for my pair presentation which is this Wednesday XP. I'll read up on that after this. I feel like tonight's gonna be a long night. I still have to pick an essay topic. Eunice, you know me... I can't make up my mind, I'm indecisive! Ugh. That's one characteristic of mine that I would like to get rid of. I'm rushing to do everything before tomorrow night simply because I won't be free from 830pm onwards. The reason to that is because I'm going to watch HP.. Since the movie starts around 9, I've estimated that I'd be back home around 12am and I have to give a presentation the following morning.

Oh, Yvonne...priorities??
Well, Tuesday is movie day and I thought since my brother is going to watch I might as well tag along otherwise I won't have anyone to go with another time. Honestly speaking, I'm not a HP fanatic or a 'true fan' or a follower of HP but HP movies are full of adventures, ain't it? haha.. I didn't watch the previous one.

I wonder why I can write so much here and sometimes blank out when it comes to essay writing. My essay will have to be at laest 1200 words long and I'm already having trouble picking a topic. Sighs.

I'd better get on with work and stop loitering around my blog.

I've survived one week of foundation

Yesterday was Friday ey? .. Ah, yeah. Class was alright. We did vocabulary exercises and learned about word families. Only 5/11 showed up. I liked it small though..

I could have gotten home earlier yesterday but I missed the bus. It was so so so so close! Shuttle bus leaves Hokowhitu campus (where my class is) to Turitea (where Uni students have their classes) at 1145am. The bus that goes to my place leaves Turitea at 1150am. So, I wouldn't be able to catch that bus, mathematically. haha. But yesterday was different. My shuttle bus ALMOST reached the bus stop at main campus and I saw the bus passed by right beside me. I was like, "Oh dammit! If only the shuttle bus driver drove faster.."
So I didn't have much choices then. I had to go to the City and take another bus home. This time I went to The Plaza while waiting for time to pass. I forgot what I did there but.. I nearly missed by ride home =P Waaaahhh Yvonne arhh. I was speed-walking to the bus terminal and I saw the bus driving out already. I waved my right hand to flag it down. Tsk tsk. Luckily for me, the driver stopped and let me in.

Last night, I went to an event called 'International Food Night' held at Uni. It was organised by the Christian clubs from uni. There were a lot of people from different countries, most who were present are uni students I think. We've got people from NZ, Malaysia, Indonesia, USA, England, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Japan, Samoa, China, Vietnam and a few others. The food was great! There was rojak! I wonder who brought that.. wahh made me miss Malaysian food :( Met new people there too. After dinner, there were performances by the Malaysians and Japanese, followed by a quiz. After that, there was a testimony and a talk. Before the night ended, we had desserts and people just hang out after that. My plate was full, so was my tummy. Oops, terlebih sudah. Haha.

Somehow I feel so young here. Haha. Maybe it's because all the people I know so far are older than me. I shall take it all in and put it in an airtight container. I am young.. :D However, I will be adding another year to my age soon. But someone else's are sooner! You know who you are..don't have to hide it. Haha. Ah, age ain't nothin but a number =)

A sign in Pak'N Save

I woke up at 11am today. Went online the whole afternoon and then went for a walk at 1650. Was bored at home and since I haven't been out of the house all day, I decided to go for a walk. Desperately needed exercise, man! Walking is exercise, right? :) Destination: Massey Uni Recreation Centre. My brother was playing football with his friends there so I planned to walk there and then hitch a ride in his car back home. The distance was about 3KM +/- .. It was a countryside walk, pretty scenic. I saw a cow, some horses and sheep along the way. I don't know why when I stopped to look at the sheep, they stopped doing whatever they were doing and looked at me too. haha. After a while, they got bored looking at me and turned away into the opposite direction. Without wasting anymore time and light, I continued my journey. I was afraid it'll get dark before I reached uni since I don't know how long it'll take to get there.

In the end, I made it before sunset! It took me approximately 30 minutes.. It didn't felt like half an hour to me though. Maybe because I was enjoying my walk. I got to exercise and breathe in cold, fresh air ey.

Had Domino's pizza for dinner. Yummy. Discounts for students too! Wow, feels good to be a student in Palmy :P The All Blacks won against the Wallabies by the way. NZ is a happy country now. haha. The Malaysian hockey team is coming over to play a few games against the NZ team too.. in August I think.

It's late now, but not in Malaysia =P I'm gonna head off to bed while you people in M'sia ... are still hanging around with your eyes wide open. Anyway, here's a picture of what 5.24PM looks like at my place.

Le, that's for you. I promised to show you how dark it is .. See. =P
Feel better and get well soon :) Drink more water, rehydrate.. less junk food, don't eat out too much.. and think positive :) Sometimes mind over matter helps.. k?

Neece, ask your dad to get you a webcam for your birthday. haha. I was suppose to write a post bout you hor? haha..

today wasn't so cold.

I had quite an adventure of my own today. It was nothing big, I didn't climb rocks, get chased by mummies or anything like that. I wasn't so keen about class yesterday but today's class went pretty well, better than I had expected. Maybe because many didn't turn up so the class was small and another reason could be because my English teacher gave me compliments? Hehe. Simple words of praise like 'Good job', 'That's great' or 'Well done' can lift up a person's mood and at the same time instill confidence. I was pretty contented when she said I did a good job with my work. It was a short essay of at least 250 words on culture. It wasn't like wow-good though, in my opinion. Whatever it was, there's definitely more confidence in me after she had given me compliments and also some words of encouragement, if not by a mile then at least by a few centimetres. It's still better than nothing, right?

Class finished at 1130 this morning. What's the point of going to the computer lab because it'll only be 730am in Malaysia and which one of my friends go online at that time? Haha. I texted my brother to find out what time he was gonna go home. Since he was going back quite late, I decided to take the bus and go home on my own. However, once I reached main campus I got a little naughty. Purr meow. haha. I took the bus and headed to the City instead =P since there weren't any buses to my place in the next 2 hours from Uni. My plan was to get off at Main St terminal which is in the City, walk around and then take the 1235pm bus home. So I went to the post office to check something out and then walked around some more. I planned to go to The Plaza to buy keropok but the friggin' traffic light was taking too long. By the time I cross the road and go into The Plaza, I'd have to turn back around and walk back to the bus terminal. -.-" right?

When I got home, it was already around 1pm. I put the clothes out to dry them. It was sunny today! What a joy! :) I went to play the piano after that. There wasn't anybody at home so I might as well play songs I know with all my heart. Haha. When I was satisfied, I went to make my lunch. My brother wanted to get rid of the bacon so guess what I had for lunch? It rhymes with bitch. haha... Sandwich la.

I went out with my brother after my lunch. He wanted to go get a haircut. His tail is gone. Someone must be happy.. haha. While he was waiting for his turn, I went for a walk along the shops at Broadway Avenue. Sales everywhere. Mainly winter clearance sales.. I wanna get a jacket. I'm devoid of jackets. Haha. I found a toy at Farmer's which is so cute. Press its tummy and it makes animal noises. Did some grocery shopping after that.

Dinner was nice. Had beef noodles soup (tambah fishball, shrimps, veges, spices, an egg) My bro cooked, I helped :) It was filling. I'm still full now.. 3 hours after dinner. I did mention that muffins were one of my guilty pleasures.. Darn I couldn't help it. I'm munching on one now :S I want my post-NS figure back... haha.

Ahh what a long post. So free huh? Doing vocab in class tomorrow. Was gonna do my vocab exercises but I deviated.. too much. Oh, dear. Anyway, something with colours for you down here.

This was my breakfast on the day I left Auckland to Palmerston North. It was a heavy breakfast ey? I see 3 yolks, do you? Wow. I haven't had a sausage since that day. haha.
My cousin's wife cooks delicious food. From stews to pies to BLT sandwiches.

That's all..

Oops. Your faith has rewarded you with..

another picture! :D

This is my lunch for today. It's got bacon, cheese and lettuce in it. See, balanced diet ar. Protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, fibre, fat.. you name it, my sandwich's got it. haha. That's a hash brown up there.

Bedtime.

I waited for the bus and it was drizzling.

Today was a bit .. new for me. Haha. Firstly, my class was only until 1100. Yay-ness. After that I hopped onto the Uni shuttle bus to the main campus. I hung out there until after 2pm while waiting for my bro to finish, he was on duty for Clubs Day. I could have taken the bus and get home earlier, before 12 noon but I thought "Nah, there won't be much for me to do at home besides going online, nap or *blank* and it's cold there.." so I decided to just stay at Uni. Library-student's lounge, back and forth and I walked around the campus but not too far away though coz I was afraid I'd be too lazy to go back to The Concourse where the library and student's lounge is. And then I wanted to walk to the Recreation Centre but it drizzled =( Wait, it rained and it drizzled. Go figure. Haha.

Oh, I burned my hand this afternoon when I was putting wood into the fire (at the fire place). . It was a clumsy, silly accident. Haha. I was poking the wood, trying to make it lie flat and still by using a medium-sized branch and the end of my right palm touched the metal thingy of the fire place. I suppose I was so into poking the wood I forgot about being careful =P Oh, Yvonne. How could you? It's just a small one, compared to the rice cooker incident a few years ago. Haha.

I went out for dinner today. My parents constantly remind to eat and not go hungry. They're worried that I'll start converting the prices of food and end up not eating at all. Haha. umm well, I do do that. Converting the price into RM. It's a habit already. No cure. Haha. I remembered what WY said, "Earn their money, spend their money then it's worth it.." Don't worry, I won't starve myself. In fact, I think the opposite will happen. Two words-weight gain. The food portions are big and there's meat everywhere plus my brother drinks FULL CREAM MILK not trimmed or the lite, slim ones. Dark blue caps are full cream while light blue or green are the less fat ones lar. Haha. Moreover, I don't get enough exercise here other than walking. NS RIADAH PLEASE! :)

I signed up for badminton club, Overseas Christian Fellowship (OCF) and Massey University Malaysian Student's Association (MUMSA), all of which I think my brother is a member of.

I better go to bed now. I wanna get over with tomorrow and the day after tomorrow (because there's class) and I look forward to the weekend. I hope there won't be anything that'll take up my precious weekend time (which I would use to catch up with my sleep). Please la hor, first week of class can? Aiya, don't wanna jinx it anyway.

Goodnight, cheers.

Class: Day 1

You're not gonna believe me when I say this but please, by all means, do. If you asked me, "Hey, Yvonne. What did you learn in class today?" I'd answer you, "I learned how to read." =)

Yes, you heard me. I learned how to READ in English class today. It's not exactly English class, the paper is called Foundation Studies in English for Academic Purposes. I've seen a lot of this word today, PURPOSE. I read a lot too. TOO MUCH READING IN A DAY FOR YVONNE. Haha. I don't read much, you see. My brother said my brain will only be vegetating and not doing much work this semester but I doubt that. I'm starting to feel the stress already. Haha. Maybe it's just me worrying too much about the upcoming assessments and assignments. Pft. English lecturer seemed so .. serious. Why so serious? =P My other lecturer is more loose and she inserts bits of humour along the way.

First day of class and I already have homework! Which is reading, loads of them. And also answering questions based on a topic. As you know I've not been writing much for the past 7 months hence my handwriting is like *inserts word that ryhmes with Pitt*. I find it difficult to write.. haha. I mean, my handwriting doesn't look like the one I expected it to turn out. You know, the slim and sorta tiny one which Eunice likes to complain about. "Von, your handwriting is blahblahblah..."
I can blame the weather too, right? It's too cold that my finger and hand muscles become inactive or they stiffen up so I can't move them as smoothly and well as I can back in the tropical weather in Malaysia =P Even my teeth started chattering! See, I was asked to give a 30 secs presentation on clothing. I don't know why but my teeth were chattering, I thought I was gonna have a nervous breakdown. And then I realised, oh it's cold. Yeah, blame the weather again. Darn. haha.

I took the bus to school this morning :) Success.. And I'll have to take it again tomorrow, tomorrow.. and maybe tomorrow. Since my brother doesn't want to fetch me and he'd prefer that I use the bus so he can sleep more I suppose. Ah, bus rides are free anyway. The only downside to that is that I have to wake up pretty early to get ready and stuff. Breakfast, lunch, toilet time, walk to bus stop. I'll have to pace up because I'm known for 'taking my time' sometimes (outside of NS). Whoops, looks like Puan is laid back too. Tomorrow's gonna be another long day at class. 9am-3pm, I'll be at campus building before 830am. 5 hours of English by the way! I'm dead sure there's going to be heaps of reading. Man, words words words. Find this point, find that point. I think I'll be more entertained if you give me a word search puzzle. Anyway, lets be positive about things and look at the brighter side :) I'll have to pass the papers in order to continue the next semester so I might as well learn to have fun while learning, right?

I should stop and get on with my reading homework. Loads of them. *says 'why why why what the heck why do I need to ahhh whatever' in Japanese*

Wish me luck.
In the meantime, I'm waiting for someone to come online. Time difference, pftt.

One week in Palmy, 10 days in NZ.

Sunday, July 12, 2009

Haere Mai. Welcome..

It's a rainy and cold Sunday in Palmerston North.

I went to church with bro and dad this morning. It's been a while.. 2 weeks? My class starts tomorrow and I don't wanna start expecting this and that. I'll just try to go with the flow I guess. Oh well, whatever it is, life goes on.

Chatted with Azizul and he showed me some really cool t-shirts with cute and funny prints on them. Haha. I KNOW YOU KNOW YOU AND I WANT THEM =P

Umm.. I'm settling down. Oh, I can't miss class. Not a single one. Plus, if I'm late for class (lets say 10 minutes), I'll be marked absent! In order to be safe and according to one of my teachers, those who go to every class are the ones who pass their papers.

Since my recent posts have been picture-less, here's one for your viewing pleasure. Need to use visual aids for class presentation you know.. haha.

One Week

I've been away from home for about a week now. Wow.

It's Friday and I don't have anything on at school so I'm... free? Blogging from uni library. I'm not sure what are the plans for today but i think I'm gonna try taking the bus. Bus rides are absolutely free for Massey Uni students! Wheee. Just flip open my wallet/purse and show the bus driver my student ID card and I'm good to go.. Hehe.

Currently staying at a motel with dad, moving in with bro next week.

Times up, parking ticket's for an hour only.

kthxbye. hahaha azizul..

These hands are shaking cold

It's cold.

It's pretty hard for me to play the piano too 'cos my fingers are sorta stiff now. Haha. Felt difficult to move my fingers across the keys.. so now I can't play as smoothly and quickly as I could back home :( Darn it. Piano is therapy.

I'm at the computer lab now. I just got my pin number to access the computers this morning. Today's 2nd day of orientation and the intake for 2nd semester is usually very small. There are quite a number of returning students and only a few new international students. So, only NEW international students were required to attend today's orientation... and there's only 2 of us!! Me and another Chinese girl. So far, I'm not in any kind of trouble so that's good =P I hope there's nothing on tomorrow so I can have a longer weekend before class starts on Monday.

I have about 10 minutes left before I have to get back to orientation. It's lunch break now. Gonna have a tour of the Turitea campus later. It's effin' huge. And I can't wait to actually get some exercise and sweat off! My bro told me that they're playing volleyball and badminton this Saturday afternoon. If everything goes well, I might join them.

I haven't used my laptop since I reached NZ. Oh my. That's about all for now.
I miss you all, loads! Do you miss me? Haha
Cheers. haha

I'm currently at my cousin's place, using his Apple computer *Azizul goes :-O* Anyway, just wanna let you know I've arrived here safely and it's cold here. I bet ya'll knew that already.

I got my NZ mobile phone number. For those of you in Malaysia, especially Eunice (although I gave you my number already I'll type it out in case there was an error in conveying the numbers to you over the phone yesterday. To call your handphone expensive you know... Haha) here are the numbers:

I'm Leavin'

Hi, world.

I'm blogging from KLIA, Golden Lounge now.

Thanks to you guys for everything (you know who you are, name-mentioning is not required). I can't blog long because I take quite a while to think and type and what I have in mind to blog about is pretty lengthy. So if I blog about it now I might miss my flight. Haha.

I'll update again once I reach New Zealand. Hopefully I can find a place to go online at Auckland. Sighs. Having mixed feelings now. I'm partially excited and the other part of me is .. missing my old life.

Till next time, :D

kemaskini

HAHA are you dying to read an English word now? That was random. I was bored, pardon me. Haha.

I went to watch
Transformers 2 this afternoon with Neece, WY, Albert, Emm, Rick & Ralph.
WAH. Syok man. I needed a movie to top
Night At The Museum 2, gosh that one was.. if you haven't watched it you might as well not. It's not that interesting. Save that money and go buy yourself a Zinger combo meal =D

I haven't finished packing. YIKES.

Mikaela Banes: Sounds cute. I can't wait.
